Fish abuse on TikTok

I was scrolling my feed today and came across a really messed up TikTok channel called “Predatory Animal World.”

Most of the videos are large, overstocked tanks with predators being fed live animals. And I don’t mean feeder goldfish. I’m talking 20-30 piranhas stuffed into a 180 or 225 being forced to attack a large snakehead, an ID shark, a squirrel, or a live turtle. He also has a bunch of content feeding medium-sized puffers to random other large predators.

Considering how people in this forum seem to highlight proper care, diet, water quality, and so on, this content really struck a discordant note.

Has anyone else run into this bizarre side of Monster Fishkeeping? Not going to lie, after going through the videos, it strikes me that the guy doing the feeding is likely getting something else out of that sort of conduct, aside from just attention . . . If you catch my drift. Really, very odd content.

I've never seen that particular channel, or anything else on TikTok for that matter, but disgusting crap like that is common on the internet. Do a google search on just about any predatory or carnivorous fish or animal and content of that type pops up. I think that piranhas are among the worst magnets for "keepers" like that.

Of course, the feed was also full of people commenting about how excited they were to witness such a ferocious “natural” spectacle.

As if a fat, slow, tank raised ID shark getting torn to shreds in a bare 225 gallon by a few dozens piranhas occurs naturally down in the Amazon, or something.

You feel like responding just how wrong they are, but it’d just be banging your head against the wall.

There's loads of stuff out there, not just fish related either. There was one channel I saw where all sorts of insects, centipedes, spiders, scorpions, bull frogs, mice, rats etc etc were pitted against each other in ridiculously small surroundings and filmed.

There are some real f*cked up twisted b*stards out there. You'd think the viewing platform they were posted on would have measures in place to prevent this type of stuff, but still we are able to see it.

Yes, I think I was just surprised to see it “out in the open,” so to speak. I mean, it was pretty clear that the content being produced was essentially violence against animals - and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of thrill the producer was getting from it. All the videos started the same - he’d hold up the animal that was going to be fed to the tank, sort of squeeze it tight in his hands, then “introduce” it to the predators.

Pretty disturbing stuff. I hope social media sites take action against this sort of thing - as literally anyone could stumble upon it.

Been plenty of these vids around since dawn of youtube.

I would never participate and its obviously irresponsible but animals are no kinder to each other outside our walls. In fact, theyre worse...they go for the babies first.

And yeah, dude probably gets off on it.

I seen that guy on youtube too, he feeds baby caimans to puffer. Turtles to giant trigger fish and piranha vs electric eel. All in a very small tank. Yeah I tried to report the account but still there

It struck me as strange because he must have a fairly good care regime to even keep those species. I can’t imagine a giant trigger or an electric eel are fish that just anyone can throw in a tank. But the videos are so contrary to proper keeping.

I used to sell used enema bags on eBay. Some interesting questions on most listings.

The world is full of freaks.
