They do not require soil, I place them bare root, stem on the tank top, with root end in the water/
The PVC next to the stem is 1", so you can see the stem is substantial.
I do the same with Philodendron on the other end of the tank, braced on the top, also in the shade of he overhang.
These terrestrial plants, can they be put in planter baskets directly in the top of the tank with the stalk and leaves above the water line or do they still require soil that is wetted by the tank water?
New Dieffenbachia, only about a 10" stem, with leaves, pulled from the local forest last week.
It was just draped in the tank, and is already rooting.
The only problem with Dieffenbachia is they can get a bit large, and out of control.
I am just under 6 ft.
And the root system can easily take up a significant amount of space, in a 6 ft tank ,below, a 180 gal
Thanks for all of the suggestions! I wound up starting simple with some pothos - if it does well I’m definitely interested in those other options as well.
