Hey, wednesday13 wednesday13 , I notice that your substrate seems to look much less "garishly red" than many poly tanks using garnet sand. Did you add something to it? Is that the stuff for which you had to wait a long time for delivery? It looks great.

I'll just mention that I recently picked up some garnet blasting sand at Princess Auto, a discount tool chain up here in Canuckistan. No fancy-shmancy plastic bucket, it just comes in a plain brown wrapper, 50 pounds for 30 bucks Canadian which is about $22US. First bag I got was fairly reddish, a second bag was much darker grayish-black with red-brown highlights. It worked well as an additive to darken my whitish pool filter sand; it's a very fine grit. Apparently it's always on the shelf in stock.

You must have a similar discount chain in 'Murrica, might be worth checking the next time you need sand. :)

Most people use better lighting to bring out more red in the sand or pink lighting. I prefer its darker maroon/burgundy tone. Its the “good stuff” most everyone uses. Barton 36 CG. Nothing added to it. Lots of other options out there like ur saying. I didn’t know enough about the correct grit size to look for in a different brand or local. Wanted this specific color and size grit so i bit the bullet on price and wait time for delivery. Alot of cheaper options are more orange/brown and smaller grit. You are also correct tho, can find about the same color/size for $30-50 a bag if you know what ur looking for. I’ll have to do some more digging locally see what i can find.

Before feeding swarm… endli has been a bit of a turd lately chasing and biting the girls. Im guessing its the warmer temps of summer. I typically run colder than average systems around 72-74 max. Creep up around 76+ this time of year when my source water warms my autodrips.

damn that bichir tank is awesome. My bichir setup looks kind of like your with the dark blue back.
You should really get a couple Congicus. It’s the my favorite bichir over the PBB.

Btw, is there a particular reason for the water line at the top being so low?
