Im sure to someone in the marine world this sump makes perfect sense how it was set up but I have been scratching my head trying to figure out where the water comes in and from where it goes out from. The two are linked with the black bulkhead which I understand yet the bulkhead with the white PVC that is down lower that leads to outside of the sump has me puzzled. Emergency overflow?

It is kinda melting my brain trying to figure out how I will set it up with 2 overflows going in and 2 return pumps going out. Any suggestions? I usually run my sumps from one end to the other all nice and simple so this is foreign to me lol

Def an odd one… most of it makes sense… kinda lol… those two boxes/sections i X’d out seem to serve no purpose at all unless im missing something . Id drill holes in those 2 sections and put ur drains there so they become the start of the drain flow ahead of the rest of it. Probably gonna need atleast 1 more hole between the chambers also. Both pumps will go in the last section. Kinda a waste of space in the last section but plenty room for the pumps at least lol…


That large middle section in the 1st sump is perfect for a moving bed/k1 chamber. Id put socks in the first sections where ur drains go in. The pvc imo is an emergency overflow. If it were for an autodrip drain itd be in the last chamber/other sump.

I cant tell how high that black pipe is … if its lower than the teeth in those 2 weir sections it should work like this. The green circles are where id drill holes. U can always fill it up and see what the water does/where the levels are at before u modify it. Hope this helps.

Black pipe is as high as it could be placed in the wall. Also, the two chambers that you have marked as inlet flow have a 2 inch gap at the bottom to allow flow into the next chamber where the baffles are so I won't have to drill through those walls.

I agree that I need another bulkhead passing through to the return tank. Maybe that entire tank was originally an emergency overflow?

Aye, nice… perfect then really. And i guessed right on the flow path then … no reason not to use the 2nd sump even if its just for the pumps. More water the better. All id do then is probably fire 2 more holes to transfer water over lower than the existing pipe.

Plenty of room for heaters in the return chamber lol

I have a drain pipe for my furnace that comes down in the wall about 2 feet away so I think I might utilize that overflow drain and do a drip system maybe. I have an RO system that I bought a while back and have not done anything with. Would save some money on chemicals I guess

Not really a fan of overflow boxes taking up space and since there will be nothing small in this tank I believe this should work for the overflows
