Huge canna lily!

Got this about three days ago. These are the pics I took when I brought it home. Right now it has been planted in my pond. Just for the record, that fridge is 5 foot 8 inches tall.

I grow these all over my home. They went from something I didn’t know existed to one of my favorite plants. It technically shouldn’t survive New Jersey winters, but thanks to global warming it’s doing great! Not only does it get large, but it grows super fast. From when it first sprouts in the early summer, it gets to 6 feet in only a few weeks.
Not only do I love them, but so do the hummingbirds:

That flower is gorgeous. Have you tried planting them completely in water or in a bog? I have read that these can be planted in ponds but i am getting mixed info. I currently have planted mine in a pond, just bare roots in a pot with gravel. Lets see how it does.

I don’t have any good areas around the property like that to try, but I have noticed them growing best in a spot that doesn’t have very good drainage.
I have considered tossing one in an aquarium though…

I see. Mine has been in water for about two days without any signs of rotting. I have placed it near my waterfall just to make sure the roots are getting enough oxygen. The crown is a bit submerged so i am keeping a eye out for rotting. One thing i noticed is that its very hard to keep it straight and in balance due to the large size and weight.

i am also on a Pond plant forum who told me submerging the entire potted plant till the crown won't hurt it, but i still didn't plant it that way.

But its definitely a underrated pond plant. If you plan on planting it in your aquarium then please share some updates!

I've seen them featured in yards and patios around the city going back many years.I even had a few clumps adorn my driveway entrance for a few....due to their tropical look,when I first discovered them on someone's property I was surprised to learn that the owner did not dig them up and bring them in for the winter but,most people don't bother with that.
I don't have any currently but here is a shot of my neighbor's lovely display.

The plants are in their front yard so pretty much all day to varying degrees..

Those grow well here in Ga. Have them in/around my turtle pond.
