What are some great dither fish for large cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, those large predatory new world cichlids(both central and south American) are what I'm talking about. Although they're 2" at the moment.
The reality here, is that with large predatory cichlids, any dither added will eventally end up a feeder fish..

Another eventuality is that trying to keep any more than just one pair of these predatory cichlids, long term, in anything less than a 6ft foot tank is quite delusional.

I knew that, trust me, and I won't keep dither with them for long, once the cichlids grow big enough. I'm gonna put those dithers in my other tanks.

I just realised you're a moderator, but thank you for your info anyways. I appreciate it.

One good type of companions are Hemiodus tetras, except for the most common Hemiodus gracilis, which max out at a small 4-6 inches. My Hemiodus cf orthonops are over 9 inches, and are thick and fast, yet super gentle on even small fish. Beautiful fish. They are shoaling fish, but my group of 3 have done well (grown from 3 inches and for about seven years in my tank).
