I worked for a tire manufacturing company and used discarded liner ply material. Some sort of very strong woven nylon material. Sorry, I don't know a brand or source. Here are a couple pics. I pulled it out from under this tank but on a smaller 330 gallon tank I lifted and set the tank the same way and just left it under the tank and cut away the excess with a razor knife. Tanks are on a dense foam pad so the sling material just compresses into the foam.

where did you get the foam pad? Thank for the info

Well, I called it foam. It is just one of those insulation panels that are available at building supply stores. Mine was Owens-Corning, so it was pink, 3/4" thick. I think they are extruded polystyrene foam. Like this, except 0.75" thick:

Rent an engine hoist and a pallet jack. We used an engine hoist to lift the tank on the stand, and the pallet jack to move the tank and stand around. The pallet jack was used several times when tank and stand had to be moved when the fish room was being dry walled, and then when the tank and stand was moved to its permanent place. The stand is fabricated out of 3 1/2" tubular steel, and is 15' x 4' x 2', so there was quite a lot of weight involved, which the pallet jack had no problem with. The engine hoist also performed well for us.

great ideas thank you. How did you "attach" the tank to the engine hoist?
