I have an 20 inch black arowana, after I did the water change I put the lid on and went on to get some food, when I came back I realized I forgot to put the dumbbell over the lid and of course he jumped out. I found him on the floor motionless, and completely dry.. pretty much dead. Tossed him in the water he sank to the bottom. A couple minutes later he was swimming a little in the water he has been gasping a lot , but slowly swimming more and more. This morning he is gasping but less, still weak but better. I tossed a little food stick he ate it. What are the chances he will make it through, or was aproximación of 30 mins out of water too much permanent damage?
My wife feels bad because she asked me to take her out to eat, and wants to buy another full grown one, but I grew this one from like 8 inches it’s not the same.

I added salt, two airstones and turned off the strongest filter that created a big current.

Thank you.

Well if that is him now, he looks pretty good.
Yes this is him right now, his eyes are cloudy couple scales hanging out not too bad exterior damage, just worried about internal damage since he was so dry he was stuck to the wood floor

Time will tell mate. It’s hard to predict. Eating is a good sign but I’d be careful not to over feed for a few days. Keep the water nice and clean, keep the salt up to help stimulate slime coat production 🙏

Thank you!

Should I do a water change you think? Nitrates are soso still orange but a little darker
Am thinking about turning the main pump on but don’t want to stress him out with a stronger current if he’s weak

I agree with tlindsey tlindsey to give him a stress free rest. The air stones for surface agitation and salt is a good start, and now for some peace & quiet!

Thanks everyone I freaked out and thought there was little hope for survival, but a week ofrest and the arowana is back to normal it seems, healed and he is eating like a pig .
Being wild caught I thought they were a lot more sensitive.. I hope no long term damage and that he can live 10+ years
