Sometimes yes, as AR1 AR1 has mentioned, the criticism can be a bit harsh for newbies on the forum (regardless of age), but I think its necessary. The internet is becoming faker and faker by the day, there needs to be blunt honesty sometimes.

I know I'm about to bash my generation but I believe that Gen Z's (and Gen Alpha's) tolerance for criticism is getting lower and lower. I feel like nobody in my generation (and the next generation) can take some LIGHT (emphasis on light) criticism without going ballistic. Its sad.

I think the important part is to be able to be willing to accept or acknowledge other points of view, my first posts on here were par for the course, I got chewed out and I learned, but I was also willing to learn and develop my own husbandry practices, and yes, the old timers can get on you, they probably have filters in use that are older than some of us, but from both sides of the coin, a little bit of openness and willingness to amend unfavorable habits goes a long way, for dealing with people and fish.

No-one likes being told the effort they've put in is incorrect, they've been misinformed, they're heading in the direction they didn't intend to.

People tend to get defensive before anything else, that is the natural reaction, but at the end of the day, we're all here because we want to do right by the animals in our care, otherwise we wouldn't be on this forum, doing our own research, asking questions and verifying answers.

The very fact that these young guys are here is enough for me to give them the benefit of the doubt, but still the boneheads will endure and thats every hobby not just ours.

I'm lying on the floor with an ice bag on my head right now. Someone here called me out last year and I never recovered. Just too delicate and sensitive for my own good...

I will arrange counselling for you, discipline for the offender and the appropriate sensitivity training for all members here so it doesnt happen again.

Err, you guys don't know me, I'm esoxs son. My dad's upstairs right now making helluva racket in the bedroom with my mum, God knows what they're doing! So I've just sneaked into his account!

I need some advice. I want to keep an Oscar but my dad locked me in the shed for two days without food and water when I said I wanted to set up his old 10g tank for it. He's a right hard arse. He got all shirty with me and started shouting at me, but I couldn't understand a word the old fart was saying. He talks right funny you know!

My mate at school has one in a 5g so I know it's doable. Your advice would be truly appreciated, but only if you agree with me on the 10g! If you don't agree, don't waste my time sticking your nose in!

Oh, and if your name is John, don't bother replying, my dad's warned me about you!

Gotta go, my mum's started screaming now, I think my dad's strangling her or summat!

Esoxs son.

Oh no, get her soothing tea, Netflix and whatever sweets she wants! We must tend to her wounded feelings!

My punch list of "Don't Get it."

People with blinding white sand everywhere complaining that their fish are stressed.

Blinding white sand as the default substrate of choice.

People who get flowerhorns and feel obligated to suffer them in a bare glass box. This is followed by no background and mirrors.

People who refuse to believe how big a species can get because they've seen stunted "healthy" fish in a too small tank.

The idea that topping off once a month is a water change for a small tank. It's a water ADD, not change.

Complaining about nitrates and not doing upkeep. (" I change the water once every 3 months, wtf is wrong")

Not having sturdy lids/weights for jumpers then hollering about their bacon crisp fishy on the floor.

Wondering why their fish are skittish in a high traffic noisy area with no background. Often the tank is near a window.

Wondering why "window tanks" have wild temperature swings. DUH. But the fish get sunshine!

Overpowering/oversized grow lights on 24/7. Fishkeeper then whines about excessive algae. (see window tanks also)

Black substrate lovers who don't get that dark colors absorb light. Get those beamers out! And more is darker. A 30 gallon tank with black looks good. A 300 gallon would look like the black hole.

People who don't pay attention to planting instructions by stuffing every plant root system into substrate, even when some plants must float or will rot.

The idea that smaller tanks need almost no maintenance.

Fresh water with dirty filters.

Old water with clean filters.

"Cleaning" bio filters every water change. Panic at following crash.

"Fish Keepers" watching incompatible fish destroy each other week after week, sit on their ass like morons and keep asking for advice. (See @holes who really love violence. Or "How to hate fish in one easy lesson.")
Just saying, my B. channoides spawned (there is now an additional free channoides) in a tank that's only had top offs for the last 2 years...

My window tank has also been doing pretty good and produces my highest quality HRPs, but then again I have no heater or LED on there so they just get actual seasons and daylight cycles.

However, as you've seen me complain about before, I hate the whole "asking me for advice, not taking my advice on how to make setting up a tank as easy and cheap as possible, and then complaining about it not going well"

Or kinda like you said, asking me if a fish can go with another fish, not liking my answer, getting it anyway and then complaining to me about them eating/killing eachother. Etc
