I got a wild caught channa Stewarti Karbi Anglong, so I was wondering can I feed him wild baby frogs , If yes then how should I quarantine and kill all the parasites, I will catch some from my garden and the shopkeeper said I can feed it freshly caught big size shrimps when I asked what about the parasites he said nothing will happen and from that I got suspicious and came here. I can certainly feed it live fish (not a goldfish), frozen fish and shrimps but I feel bit insecure about other options like live mealworms, earthworms , frogs etc as I had never feed it too any of my other fish .

his condition is pretty messed up but it's breathing, not hiding and observing me , so I feel like it can easily survive

Was the filter on the tank you put it in properly cycled? His mouth looks injured but his slime coat is milky as well. What are your water parameters?
Feed it whatever it will eat. Most likely will only take live foods as it’s wild caught. I wouldn’t be concerned about parasites cause the wild foods it was eating before you put it in your tank were not “cleaned” first 🤷🏻‍♂️

1.Yup 1000%,
2. well as it was caught by locals people who don't know much about fish and then sent to the retailer who quarantined them for some days to decrease the fatality rate for the buyers that's why it's like that, nothing wrong with my tank it's just that I need to add some water lettuce to make him more happy
3. Ph should be a bit acidic as I added the banana leaves for the snakehead
Well I got soo excited that I mistakenly put this guy in this aquarium instead of a smaller tank for better observation but the fish is doing great and he is showing signs of changing his slime coat, I know what I did was wrong but I won't repeat it again 😔

THANK YOU

BThis is the first time I have seen Channa that badly. I used to keep Karbianglong but I released it into the river because there was a disease that the only way to cure it was to release it into the river

I'm sorry he's not doing great, that is stressful.

To clarify: was he healthy when he arrived at your house?

When you write "to decrease the fatality rate for the buyers that's why it's like that" what are you referring to? Do you mean he's sick because of the quarantine?

His fins are clamped but have you been able to see his gills and if they are discolored or look irritated?
And same question for the fecal matter, does it look different than what it's supposed to.

Live food is always most efficient with live caught Channa, but can also be riskier in terms of infection.
I would recommend you to keep doing water changes regularly, add an air stone if you can, add more salt than you usually do, and if you are able to get Ocean's Nutrition Discus Pellets, do it. They're shaped like bloodworms, they sink and most importantly their movement mimics a worm so when they wiggle their way down to the bottom Channas go chomp immediately. Plus it's easier to get them to go close to your fish than it is with live food, if said fish is not moving a lot or doing great.

Rooting for you and the lil guy!
