When I was breeding hypancistrus, I used to created standing waves with an Ecotech Vortech. They were better when used in pairs with one pump as the master and the other pump in slave mode so they are synchronized. However, in smaller tanks, I had no issue creating standing waves with even one Vortech. They are pricey but are amazing. You could always buy a used older model for less. They pretty much last forever…no problems with mine.

I'll see what I can find in terms of used older ones... $500 for a pump is a little much lol

Yeah, the Ecotech are pricey for sure. They do come in different sizes and you can sometimes find them used for half retail.

However, there’s also these Hygger pumps for $70-$80 that looks pretty nice and seems to do a similar function. Never tried them but they might do the trick

Hygger Wavemaker with Controller
Hygger 3400gph DC pump
