Hello all, I have around 2000 gallons of tank in my basement. Most of these are 300 gallon stock tanks. I aim to get a couple of questions answered from the experts at MFK.
I was spoiled with great city water in my old home. It was softened to about 8 grains straight to my house. I had to water guy come out and measure at my new house after seeing calcium deposits building up over everything (leaving thick residue on heater that needs to be scraped off, in only about 2 weeks of being set up). He measure out 28 grains per gallon.
To be transparent, I keep tons of fish. moray eels, spiney eels, bichir, oscar, etc.
I know that probably no fish enjoy being in water this hard, especially the eels.
I have read that softeners are bad for a number of reasons. Sodium can kill plants and sometimes even fish. I have heard about RO but seems wasteful and expensive. Not against anything, I need this water to be perfect, regardless of the cost.
What do you guys recommend? Or should I keep using the hard water? Nothing is wrong with the water besides being at 28 grains per gallon hardness.
