Why is my convict cichlid digging holes next to fry

Oh I see, thats so interesting. I love convicts. Great parents, they dont play haahha. The mom bit me the other day when i was rearranging their decor and they both were biting the siphon today when i was siphoning the sand haha.

The bite despite their size gets your attention lol.

Young are moved instinctually to different holes as fry contaminate holes (leaving tell tail scents and evidence) with feces and other debris.
And new deprssions are fresh, and less likly to attract predators.
Many cichlids do this, as a protective measure moving fry daily (not unlike a fox or other mammels that move pups from den to den).

Great info Duane! I knew cichlids dug several pits to move fry around but never knew why. Fascinating
