Buttikoferi tank

Hello fist time posting so hope it goes well I pick up 3 Buttikoferi that are about 1.5 inches and iv put them in a 20g long and was going to put them in a 135g later on when they get bigger is the 135 to big for them for me to put them at the size that are now are they going to be able to get food in a large tank like that and say screw the 20g long??? Sorry to bother some help would be great ???

Welcome aboard
The Buttikoferi is a very aggressive cichlid. You will probably end up with one even in a 135 gallon. Feeding probably would be easier in the 20 gallon long at that size.

Thanx a lot for the advice Iv done my research on how aggressive they are that why I want them I love very aggressive fish like that I have a 125g also so I’m gonna keep 2 and probably sell or give away the 3rd if they survive…

I own one medium in size its in the middle of the hierarchy with 3 other large cichlids in a 225 gallon. I believe with a similar sized tank 3 would be fine. There would be some fighting but if everything is ok none would die.

No point in waiting to get a 135 gallon. Technically they would outgrow the 20 gallon in a little over a month. Plus its small you risk too much aggression and they might kill one another.

I have the 135 it’s only for 1 Iv decided I’ll keep 2 the second will go in my 125 I have both the 135 and 125 already and I’ll give the other one away or sell it I have them split them up now the 20 long was not good only for the first few day then all hell broke loose man are they aggressive even at 1.5 inches wow thanx for the post

they will kill everything in the tank and then kill themselves trying to attack anything outside the tank, the more space the less attention they pay to outside things but unless your extremely lucky and find the one sane butti in existence, your gonna have a tough time
