Yes, that was a poor choice of the Biden administration to give those subsidies. They were supposed to reduce inflation but had the opposite effect. We as a family declined the payments that were offered at the end of 2022 because it was added to the taxable income for that year and was therefore nothing more than a gimmick to make the govt look good and was just a loan to ourselves 3 months before the years end. No thanks!
The other big inflation contributor was the energy policy of the last administration. Shutting down the Canadian natural gas pipeline, stopping fracking and no new federal land leases for oil, buying oil offshore when the US has plenty. These were significant influences in the cost of living (transportation both personal and commercial) driving inflationary increases.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for environmental stewardship. We have to preserve the life of our planet. The problem is we still used the same amount of fossil energy because there was not enough green energy to supplement the deficit in production.
The third was approved by the Biden admin, the first two & the PPP loans were approved by the Trump admin via the cares act.
We were very fortunate to get a new administration in 2020 (Definitely not my choice candidate but way better than the previous that made a mess of things) otherwise inflation would have been as bad as it was worldwide. We need trust busters combating corporate greed as most of the inflation we faced in the states was caused by price gouging

The 2nd & 3rd and the loans were distributed by the Biden admin, who, if they thought it was a bad idea could have signed and executive order and abolish them.
And inflation in the US was at its peak growth in 50 years under Biden. So you say it was Covids fault, but if Trump was pres you would be blaming him. Ridiculous.
Like I said early, I have never 100% agreed with any administration in either Australia or the US. I didn’t agree with the Cares Act money either.
No one has sought to expose and eliminate governmental waste and bureaucratic greed more than DJT in the history of the world. I’m not saying I like him at all, but that is factually true, and why politicians on both side of the aisle hate him.
I appreciate all the back and forth in this thread. The spirit and tone of it has been amendable this far, but I know I’m starting to get annoyed, as are those whose view is opposed to mine. I don’t see much if any good coming of this by participating any further. We all have our opinions, which in our own worlds are valid and true. So as of now I’m just gonna be a good citizen, work hard, pay my taxes, love my family and the peoples world around me with similar or different views, and sit back and watch what happens over the next 4 years as I have done with every administration that I have ever been governed by.

The middle one I cannot speak to, as it’s out of my scope of understanding. What I could hypothesize is that many of the cash rivers the bureaucrats have drank from are drying up because of DOGE so the greedy will look to keep drinkin anyway they can. This is not specific to one party either, tons of them in both parties have gotten rich off their “public service”. Who is to blame for that? Probably all of them LOL

Well for 1 I’ve lost tens of thousands from my shares, which will come back but still annoying, Perth is an export based economy that relies on exports to China as you know. I started my business to ride the post covid boom and having an unnecessary global recession because of some fvckhead in America is ridiculous. No one else in the world cares about American hyper polarised politics.

Sorry that you’ve lost $ on paper mate. I truly hope things stabilize and come back, and even increase for you. The same happened during to 2008 recession in the US. I think Obama was Pres at the time. My retired Aussie parents lost 60% of their share/stock value as a result. They held on, and slowly things recovered and grew again. I am hopeful of the same outcome for you and everyone else affected.
People say they don’t care, but then talk and act like they do. This is the unfortunate experience of every one of us affected by the global economy and living under govt rule
