I have had some friends say I should do threads for some of my more interesting fish. I know this guy isn't exactly rare, but they're quite uncommon in my area and I see a lot of people asking for information about them.
I picked this guy up several months ago now (don't remember when, I'll...
So my little Ornate has an ulcer like lesion on his one side that I would typically identify as colmunaris in trout and sturgeon.
I have no plecos and the poor guy hasn't come out enough for me too notice till now.
What do you guys think? Best form of treatment? I salted the tank and turned the...
I have been scouring the internet for red or garnet sand for my bichirs and eels.I haven't been able to find it and I wanted to help bring out my bichirs colors by switching my substrate from white sand to either red, black or brown sand. What is also a good 'size or grit' of sand for bichirs?
I am thinking of building my dad a tank between 300g-500g for his next birthday.
I want to add 1 or 2 bichirs though debating on the species I hear they grow about a ft less in captivity though I am worried about how wide I could build the tank/length, as wide as I could build would have to be...
Hi, thought I'd do an update since I haven't posted in a while. Is a long one, but have cool pictures to trick you in to thinking it's not boring haha
The tank is 7ft long x 4ft wide x 2ft deep (1400 litres) with a 16 inch tall sliding glass door riparium section.
The riparium plants are...
The tank has a 16 inch tall open Riparium canopy with sliding glass doors, so emersed plants can grow and the fish can jump without hitting a lid.
At the moment I keep:
x2 Polypterus bichir lapradei
x2 P. endlicheri
x1 P. congicus
x1 P. ansorgii
x1 P. polli
x1 P. senegalus
x3 P...
Hey all!
I'm about to switch this tank over to a sand substrate (finally), and then the whole gang's moving into a 120g later in the spring. So this is sort of the last hurrah for this particular setup, which has been running more or less interrupted for the last decade.
The tank's a mess, but...
In this professionally produced, high definition video, we will see the species Polypterus delhezi in action feeding on nightcrawlers. This is one of the best polypterus videos on the internet. These are incredibly intelligent and beautiful fish. Highly recommended. Enjoy ...
I've seen people with a tank full of bichirs and no decoration whatsoever and they make a piledrive. I'm thinking of doing the same unless it's a bad idea?
I have two, I know they are still small to know for sure but I do believe one is a male and one is a female because of their fin differences. They are both about 6.5" and very happy healthy fish but my daughter is disappointed in the tank because we have a 100 gallon long and she never gets to...
My endlicheri is currently trying to swallow my smaller Senegalus as I type. My main concern is that the endlicheri will die trying to swallow this meal, and as the Senegalus is already dead. Part of me wants to let nature take its course but I do not want my endlicheri to suffocate trying to...
Whats up MFK members, I just did a very large water change and I'm going out of town today for thanksgiving. I haven't fed my polys in 2 days but I have 3 feeders in there and all the bichirs were stalking them so I'm pretty sure their hungry but (1) do you know if water changes would disrupt...
