Dang looks awesome jose but yeah you need some more in there. I got rid of all my discus also. Just got sick of those things and they get to be a pain. Go with the loaches they are awesome. I stocked my tank up with 30 clowns, 4 skunk botias, 5 hillstreams and i got a school of rummy nose tetras and a few straglers. Odessa barbs, serpae and lemon tetras. Oh I got 4 bumble bee gobyies and those guys are rad. Go with a loach tank I love mine. Im going to add some more. I need to get some angelica loaches and dwarf loaches and some more clowns of course
Thanks man! I love loaches too. I have a few big yoyo loaches in there. I do miss my old pack of clown loaches. If I could another group I'd add more. I just don't want to start over with them at small sizes. Takes way too long!
Its small for a full grown VATF, but with the growth rate of them it should last you a couple years before selling him to me Lol. I don't think the branches would have that much of an effect on one but... never know until you try it
What if you did one of those half tank half reptile set ups? I bet you would pull off a wicked set up big dogg!!
Chameleons on top and Archers on bottom... you'll get the full "spit to kill" from the archers on the daily
(YOUUTUUBE)
P.S.
WTH, did you put Christmas Lights on that first pic of page 4??? Looks crazy!
Ha! A riparium-type setup would look awesome. Sounds like a lot of maintenance work though, trimming plants, keeping the glass clean, etc. And I'd have to build a new top, since my tank is completely open from the top. And that pic of the Heckellii lol, nothing! It's all in the lighting
Looks good J! Glad to see you back around
How about Congo Tetras? Those were always fun for me
Didn't want live plants again?
Thanks Ben! I love Congos too. I was actually looking for some, but didn't find any at the time and went with the lemon tetras instead. Congos probably would have been a better choice since they get a little bigger than the lemons.
The only tetras I have been able to keep with my Mesonauta have been massive colombian tetras. All other tetras that I've tried to keep with them (let's see, smaller bleeding hearts, black phantoms, lemons, HY511s, smaller colombians) would be chased by the festivums and by the next morning, they were gone. Just watch the festivums (you might be ok if you grow them out with the tetras). In my opinion, Mesonauta insignis are the best looking when full grown.
And nice geo and satanoperca!
Thanks! Ah yes, I've kept several columbian tetras too. Love those little guys. Awesome color and they act like a little pack of wolves when they're together, especially at feeding time!
Jose Im diggn the grassy plants in the rocks but there are too many hanging plants...just looks too fake.
As far as diff fish how about some compressiceps or some calvus? They have color(nothing compared to cichla
, and dont become tank busters. Dont grow nearly as big as frontosas. But have that really cool cichlid look.
Good to see ya back buddy. And even better to see the tank w/out the boring arse discus in it. My brother even got rid of his and is now on a loach kick. Keep us updated w/ the new pick ups.
Thanks Morgan! Those cichlids are nice, but I don't want to keep Africans with the fish I have right now. The discus were the perfect center piece for this tank, and not boring at all lol. But I just had the worst of luck with them, even when doing everything 'right' by the book. No idea what went wrong. But I'm in love with the eartheaters right now, just wish the used all of the tank for swimming instead of just the bottom.
awesome setup,also the background
Thanks!
Wow looks amazing!

Thank you!
I have never been a plastic plant lover but I must say, you seemed to have pulled it off nicely.
Thanks Brent

How did I miss this thread?
Awesome set up as always, keep the pics coming.
Lol thanks man! It's good to be back
I hear you...I don't know why, but rainbows can look out of place in a lot of tanks. Not sure what it is about them...maybe their color?
The tank is finally doing well. I had to treat Ich, which had my electric meter spinning like a helicopter. But now that it's starting to warm up, it's definitely using less juice.
+1 for a few pinktails. Mine were never aggressive and fast enough to escape bullies. They aren't very active swimmers; they tend to just hover in one spot, waiting for something to hit the surface so they can pounce on it. They are kinda like mini cichla the way they hit food at the water's surface. They are one of my favorite fish...I'm trying to get the yellow pelvic fin variety, since I believe they grow larger than the other more plain looking ones. I think either species would look dope in your tank.
Where did you get your plants from?
Thanks! Yeah I think it's the color of the rainbows. It's too intense when mixed with other less colorful fish. Although a sole group of rainbows in a tank by themselves would look incredible. The plants are all from Michael's. Been getting plants from there for a while now. Much cool looking plants than a typical aquarium store, a lot more natural looking. And they're usually cheaper too, especially if you get them when they have their 50% fake plant sales.
I just looked at your thread again. The fish are looking great, love those wide bars SDs! Glad to here the heating is sorted out now. Once summer rolls along I'll be surprised if your heaters even kick on at all. It's just during those really cold nights when the temps plummet that you want a lot of watts to keep the temps from dipping too low. You can always do it with less wattage, but then you keep them running longer. And heaters need downtime to cool off. The more they work nonstop, the more prone to a shortened lifespan. I have a 1000w rod in my 190g, which is indoors. It rarely kicks on, and when it does, it's just for a few minutes and turns right back off. I can tell by hearing the 'clicks' of the temp controller.
