so i have a 1 year old oscar and it seems hes done growing.
hes 10.5 inchs and has slowed down alot in his eatting habbits.
should i exspect more growth out of him?
hes in a 135 6ft
tank mate is a 8inch comman pleco also a year old
10.5 is great for only a year old.
He has got many more years left to grow. They grow like weeds when they are young but they definatly slow down once they get about 10in.
A decline in eating usually isnt a good sign.
He is a nice looking oscar
the decline in eatting happened because the loss in tank mates i think
he beat the crap out of the other oscar so had to re home
then beat up the GT and the GT turned around and beat him up so had to re home
hes been my favorite so ive never re homed him
im hopping to get a jag well see how that goes
just wanted to no at what age he will stop growing
fish never actually stop growing but their growth rate just slows as they age, im sure he will grow at least a couple more inches just give him some more time
i have seen a couple bigger but not by a whole lot, he may grow a little more but not a whole lot i think mine is about 11 inchs and has not got bigger in a while
they will grow to adult size and will take several years.
At least to 2,5 years, so your fish will keep growing for a long time.'My red grew to 10"in a year and slowed down lenghtwise, but is getting her full body growth now.
My new tiger is less then a year old and is still growing an inch a month and is gaining fast on my red.
But he's still missing his boisterous look, but i got more time.
I hope to have them for many more years, for they are the most personable fish i know.
I doubt it is done growing at only 10.5". Though 10.5" is not "great" for one year, they will usually grow to at least 12" in their first year, and 14" isn't uncommon for a one year old.
