So I finally found the tank I'll be most likely upgrading to. It's 5 foot long and 120 gallons. So my question is, what other cichlids could I add to my current stocking which is currently growing out in a 60. JD, FM, Carpintis, Pictus Cat, Striped Raphael Cat, and Rubber Lip Pleco. The cichlids I'm looking at are (and not all of course) Oscar, Green Terror, Salvini, Chocolate Cichlid (maybe), Convict(afraid of hybrids). I'd love to do a Red Terror/Festae, but I'm pretty sure that's impossible. Thanks as always.

in time, the jack dempsey and carpintis will fill that tank out nicely. but if you're content on adding fish i wouldn't add anything that gets al large as those two. maybe a salvini or convict.

I agree with ehh. Salvini can be positively nasty, so can convicts haha. I would personally add a male convict and nothing else. Also don't be surprised if the rubber lip goes to the tank in the sky...

Is there a better pleco to survive with the Carpintis? And I pitty any cichlid that tries to get nasty with the Tex in the future. Stupid question but there's no way to prevent Convicts from breeding with all my fish right?

No way I'm aware of. Get all males and you should be fine. I've had a single convict with species it could hybridize with and it didn't.

Would a hybrid breeding pair take over the tank? Sorry never bread cichlids before and heard stories of a breeding con

You have a 5 foot 120G? Are you sure it's not a 110g? 60" X 18" X 24" ? Only 120G standard I know is 48" X 24" X 24".....or is it custom?

I wouldn't worry so much about your "Tex"....remember, a Carpintis is not a TRUE Texas.....it is the Pearl-scaled/Lowland/Green Texas Cichlid and is much calmer in demeanor and aggression, nor will it grow as large as Cyannoguttatum, the true Texas/Rio Grande Cichlid. The JD will probably end up as tank boss, IF it can handle the FM and realize it's just going to be bigger and badder then him.

Being a big fan of anything Andinoacara, I vote for a GT/Saum. Few fish have the coloration and qualities of large show-quality male GT/Saum

Don't have it yet but will get it. It's sold at Petsmart online. And I really like GTs. Just having trouble finding them. Where in PA have you seen them? Oscars and GT are my fav large option left for this tank. And I think a con may be a safer bet for me than a Salvini but I'm not sure yet.
