125g Native tank Updated

That is an awesome tank you have there Amber, LOVE the natives. I've always wanted to do a native tank, but never had a big enough aquarium. If you decide to add more fish, I would vote for a pickerel. I think it would look really cool in your setup.

I have a tank like that but i had 2 small mouth and 4 blue gill/ pumpkinseed and 1 green sunfish. The larger bass was only an inch bigger than the other one and things didn't turn out well. So you should watch that bass.

Nice set-up. Seems kind of crowded though. What does the filtration system/water change schedule look like on a tank like that. I haven't had a tank since I was a teenager but am thinking of setting something up that would have qualified as a dream tank back then. I live in northern Costa Rica right now and if I make the choice to make it permanent, I want to build a large "native" tank behind my house with fish caught here on my property. There are a lot of different cichlids, one that I especially want to try and keep gets about 18" long and has gorgeous blue-green markings. No idea what it's called in English, they call it "guapote" here, but that seems to be a blanket term for large cichlids. Anyways, I just found this site and figure I'll pick the brains of anyone who'll let me.

Amber, great tank. I'm looking at setting up one myself with similar species. Could you shoot me a pm with advice on starting up a native tank like yours?

No i can't do that becuz ur PMs are turned off

Nice setup! I love Native style tanks. I have wanted to do a Native Ohio River (Cincinnati section) tank for a while, but I'm waiting to find a nice deal on a 180g or something similar in size. I would like to build another tank, but the tank I am currently working on has been taking WAAAYY too long so I would rather go pre-built for my Native setup. Do you catch/collect from local waters or do you purchase your stock from a store/fish farm?
