Looks great so far. I really like the idea of mocking up a tank first so you don't feel rushed through the project and can get it just right.

here's another little update. I decided to change the bottom rock on the left side rocky outcrop, here is the bottom of it, plenty of area to silicon it to the base of the tank

I'm warming to the idea of live plants, i'll need to do some research into what's available and what they require to thrive before investing in anything. They'd definitely brighten up the aquarium and be a nice contrast with the rocks.
here's how it's looking at the moment, just need to do rocks over the front of the weir box and in the top right corner, then it's ready for grout, paint, sealer.

I've made two holes to take 9mm/12mm Eheim hose for adding water to the tank.
