150gal - time for a makeover... DIY weir, sump, background

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This morning I cut the background into multiple sections to aid installation

The whole lot then received a coat of grey tile grout

looking much better already :)

Thanks ReiningChick :-) when you start your own background keep us updated.

Today I bought a TMC Pond Clear Advantage 25W UV steriliser

The UV steriliser was then plumbed in at the same time as my spare Eheim Pro 3 (2080)

The tank is nicely over filtered now and seems to be benefitting from the increased turnover already with less debris being allowed to settle on the substrate.

I really can't wait to get the weir box and sump installed :-D

Are the tile grout fish safe or will you need to seal it with something?

Sealed with a few coats of G4 Pond Sealer, after the first coat a bit of orange sand was added to give a bit of colour

A dummy assembly in the garage looks like this

Old tank drained down, holes cut in the back for the overflows

Background siliconed in position

Here you can see the holes for the overflows, just need to install the weir box and last background panels

Bean Animal style overflows in position

Temporary sump in position, pipes aren't stuck together yet, that's why they're not straight and parallel

Water in :-)
