Again im not being critical just trying to understand this but if we use the attached graph and assume its some what accurate then the 1.5 e drain would move/handle around 1400 gph. Does that match your pump ? View attachment 1229876
No worries, I didn't think you were being critical. I was under the impression that your overflows were internal and not external for some reason.

Mine are internal overflow boxes. But now i think i understand why you were able to maintain your set up with ball valves. Again could wrong (should be my disclaimer on every post) but that wouldnt work for us. I think the ability to make finer adjustments with the gate valve would be easier when trying to dial in two overflows.

Interested to see what ragins take is

You could change that by putting an opening toward the bottom of each of your overflows as well as the the teeth on top. Then your setup would be the same as mine. It would also help detritus on the bottom get into the overflow and down to the sump.

Thx for the suggestion but i dont want it to be the same lol. I WANT to have independent overflows mostly because its what i understand and i would imagine it would allow me to match the siphons better. Could be wrong though

jvc66 jvc66 this is what were were talking about but with pics. Jc used the existing pond box's 3/4 fitting and tubing (pretty sure) so he used his pumps intake size and reduced down to the pond box's fitting. I couldnt find anything or anyone that used this method and hes not active anymore so i could lnt run this by anyone but i wanted to use the 1.5 intake on my pump something bothered me about reducing it to 3/4...who knows maybe no big deal but here are the pics.

Wanted to make a hole that fit 1.5 plumbing so using this chart i used a 2 3/8 hole saw and sloooooowly cut the hole.

Then literally took the pump and box box to home depot and camped out in the plumbing dept. Found that a 2 inch trap adapter fit perfectly and the threaded end could be tightened to hold it in place (alsowrapped a bunch of teflon tape for a more snug fit.
Then used a 2x1.5 inch bushing. A small the length of pipe 1.5 inch will connect the pond box to the slip end of the 1.5 inch adapter threadxslip adapter on the pump.

You may find a simpler solution just mess around with a buclnch of different fittings.

Also pluggrf the intake on the box

Heres a question for everyone. Im trying to come up with a plumbing Idea thats easier than using a python water changer for quick water changes. What I am thinking is have a hole drilled into the back of the tank, having a strainer put on it and piped down underneath the tank and stopped by a ball valve. on the otherside of the ball valve would be a barbed pvc fitting so I can have a plastic hose hooked up to it and at the turn of the valve just drain the tank as much as I want? Any ideas or suggestions or is this just a bad idea?

I think a lot of people do just that. If I had thought about it a bit more, I might have tried something like that with my 220 but ultimately I ended up going with a pump out method. I will use one of my RIO 20HF pumps to pump the water out of the tank and out the garage onto the driveway. It hooks up to a 1" line and the pump can pump 1290gph at zero head height, so I should get near that since my head height will actually be negative. Then I will use another RIO 20HF pump to pump water from my 55 gallon water change barrels in the garage back into the tank. The slowest part of this should be refilling the barrels from the hose after the water change is finished.

Yea I just wanted to see if anybody had some pics. I thought people didnt but just havent found them yet. My situation would proabably be easiest since ill have a slop sink rather close to the tank location to just gravity feed a hose instead of disconnecting pumps

That should work. I have T'ed from my closed loop circulation, but same concept. I close the output on the cls, and open the ball valve where i have hose connected. The pump for my cls is used to quickly drain the water. If you dont have cls, you can also connect pump, or just stick to siphon.
