I’m getting a 200 gallon tall aquarium, and its dimensions are absolutely insane. It is 47” long, 24.5” deep and 42” tall. If you were me what would you stock this tank with? It’s acrylic and fully plumbed with built in overflow. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I’ve never had a tank that is this deep.

First fish came to mind is the Angelfish or Discus due to not being over active and both grow tall. I would add tall growing plants preferably Amazon Swords.

Id do discus/angels/ larger tetras/plecos/larger cories/hatchets/ and maybe fill it 3/4 of the way with some sort of paludarium type biotope

For me, very tall tanks like this are best appreciated as displays somewhere in your house where you can appreciate it, versus say a large footprint indoor pond or shallow tank being more practical for monster fish located in a basement or garage.

So with that in mind I would probably set up a large community of your favorite community fish under 6-7". Either that or fancy goldfish.

Did you make any decisions on the stocking?
i didn't. as of this point i am leaning towards seeing if i can trade it for a shorter and wider tank, or honestly even a return pump and a light. i really don't know if i need to be adding another aquarium like this right now, especially considering what an unbelievable pain in the ass it will be to clean/setup/maintain/everything. the openings on the top arent even large enough for me to get inside of so i'll have to dangle in. i need to set up a sump on one of my 125s so i should probably shift my attention there, you know?

It's funny, I actually had your same "problem" some years back with a weird tall aquarium that was shipped to me on accident and subsequently became my property.

I didnt know what to do with it so I eventually just boxed it up and sent it to its rightful owner lol. Your welcome, American Aquariums.

I did start a thread on reef2reef for stocking suggestions and all the seahorse keepers went nuts, said it was almost certainly designed for keeping seahorses.
