thats awsome. i know this is wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy to early in the building process to ask but what are your plans on what to stock it with.
No its not way to early to ask...
I am building this tank for the fishies I own right now... i bought them and I am growing them out in my 40 gallon

theres gonna b 3 oscars, 2 polypterus senegalus, 1 brown knife, 1 pleco, a reedfish... and then I still will have space to add a bit more.

Ill prolly throw in a peacock bass or 2

and then i needa decide between 1 of the following three monsters...

-Silver or black arowana
-Emperor Snakehead (Channa Marulioides)
-Redtail catfish or marbled pim

What do you all think would be the best choice with the other fish?

I may also put in another bichir.

Just an update on the work I did today, I bought the multiplex boards to cover the sides and top of the stand to make it look a bit better and give it some support against horizontal torsion.

I took some pictures on my camera phone but since i have windows vista there is no driver made for my phone yet. so i cant put the pics up.
anyway the work on the actual tank will start next week or the week after, probably the week after because i have mad work to do for exams...
I was so tempted to buy more fish the other day
I went by the lfs to buy some new frozen foods, and they just stocked up on rare fishies
they had some nice looking arowanas, snakeheads, rtc/tsn hybrids, some scats... a cool Australian lungfish, some real nice ornate bichers... they also got in a new motoro ray which looks gorgeous.... i was proud of myself for pulling myself away without buying anything...

So I just found out the measurements I made for the volume of this tank are in UK-gallons. Turns out its actually a 270 gallon tank!

just as a warning, the pleco can kill the bichirs. the plecos will aquire a taste for slimecoat and it will eat it off the bichir and kill it. i say either leave the bichirs or the pleco in the 40gal. since theyre just senagals they should be ok in there. i say arrowanna, i dont know much about snakeheads cause theyre illegal over here in the u.s.:( . and a catfish isnt as cool as an arrowanna. i think the ornate bichir would be a great addition. and maybe a ray.

why would the pleco only kill the Bichirs than? wouldnt it also try to eat the slimecoat off of other fish? And dont you think the bichirs would kind of notice a pleco biting them and move away?
I havent notice much of a problem... the pleco generally hides during the day and at night i feed him some pleco discs and hell come out for them...
has anybody else experienced problems with plecos eating slimecoats of other fish?

this is one of the many threads on this topic in the polypterus section of the forum. plecos like eating the slime coat off bichirs because theyre slow fish that wont fight back. and the bichirs dont fight back because the plecos arent biting the, just lightly sucking on them. theyre have been numerous pleco killing bichir incidents, the only species of pleco that hasnt ever eated slime coat is the bristle nose pleco, which only get 4 in. which means they can get eaten by the bichir unless its a small species.(I.E. senagal, albino senagal etc.) and dont think you found a loop-hole by buying a chinease or siamese algea eater, its more likely that the CAE or SAE kills the bichir then a pleco. the only safe algea eaters are like i said, bristle-nose plecos, and big snails, which can also get eaten. sssssssooooooooo your stuck my friend.
