So I’m curious about the two Bifas that you had together in the 240 that were showing signs of being a pair. They were digging pits together, and trying to fend of the Melanura pair from their side of the tank. What happened? How long were the two bifa together in the 240 for?
The one you just updated us on is the bigger of the two that you had right?? He’s stunning by the way!!
This bifa was always too aggressive so he couldn't successfully pair up.

I'm actually selling him soon. He just can't play nice.

that is what i hate about these beauties. they bang others real hard. I have a argentea 2" that beats the crap out of every fish i try to introduce. he lives alone in a 40 breeder. he's killed 3 of his siblings when they were all 0.5" only. The day i introduce he wont do anything until the lights are on. the light go off and you find the new fish floating the next day. so far he's killed swordtails, large 3" mollies , cory cats, 3 spot gourami. i've lost all hope and keep it alone now. and for that my dad always scolds me , he says that it seems that the tank is empty and the tank is in the main hallroom.

He’s sounds like a beast. Keep growing him out and maybe your dad will respect him more.

Changing direction of this tank. It'll be a work in progress until I find new inhabitants and offload a few of the current stock.

Eventually this will be a South American, peaceful community tank with severums as the centerpiece.

Help me out if you have any fish for sale that fit my needs, around the Orange county California area, thanks!

It’s funny how certain types of cichlids just have a hold on our hearts and minds. I’m laughing at how you went from full grown beautiful Bifas all the way back to the 2-3 inch babies. The black belts are already interactive with you, which is awesome. Congrats on your new Viejas.

Part of it is I only allow myself one large tank. I do have a small 40g breeder for emergencies. The other part is I went with the Synspilum pair which wouldn't allow for any other large fish. This time around, I plan on keeping all males in hopes I can keep more large fish in the 240.

Yes, the black belt is exceeding my expectations. Dan has more at the 5" size for those who wants some. If I had another tank, I would buy more.

Here are photo documentation of these newbies, but first a couple of photos of my synsiplum I grew out from one of my batches. He was the second largest but had the best coloration:
