Hey Chompers nice to see ya!!

Do you think for my setup I should step down to 3/4" as well? And at what point would you do it? Inside the tank, before the tank, or after the syphone break?

Thanks for all the great ideas, I am starting assembly now.

Let your pump dictate your plumbing size and then keep it that size or larger through out (but not the gravity fed side).

When you reduce down, only do so when it splits into at least two more pipes. And use the "pie are square" formula to calculate your cross sectional areas of the pipes to make sure the splits are large enough. For instance, two half inch pipes do not equal a one inch pipe.

Thanks again Chompers.

Anouther question. I am running into some clearance issues, resticting the tripple overflow design. Useing 1 1/2"ers

So both the eheim I have now, and the mag 9.5 I will get later use 3/4 outlet.

Keep in mind I am doing only 100 gallon tank.

I also noticed that you have your overflow valves closed a lot on the silent setup.

If I can make 1" pipes fit for the 3 overflows,,,,, and use 3/4 for all the rugf, do you think it will still work??

The 2 main overflows would be 1.57 and 3/4 would be .44 thats little over 3.5 times the area, plus the little bit going down the third pipe would be close to 3.75 times the area of the incoming fresh water. I think?

I did a mock up, and with 1 1/2 pipes, I can't get my receiver in the cabinet far enough to close the door, and wife happened to be supervising, and said ""your not leaving it like that are you"? translated into man talk, do that with a brand new 700$ cabinet and your cut off!

For the in tank portion, you will probably need to use 1.5" for the silent design. I was only able to get it to work by using about 1/4 of the rated flow from the pipes. I haven't been able to study it all that well in different situations. But I do know that it doesn't work when running the pipes their maximum velocities. Keep the in tank portion as large as possible and you can easily get away with the one inch pipes in the stand.

I'm not following what you are trying to say. What do you mean by the 1.57 and .44?

Sorry I didn't read the whole thread but are you using / going to use the UV on the tank ? If so how will it be plumbed in and what are its specs ?

Thanks Chompers
