im planning to buy a 300g tank used. it measures 8'x3'x20". the owner says its 1/2" thick and bottom pane is 5/8". is this tank safe? never owned a large tank such as this before so i wanted some feed back from experienced ppl that owned large tanks 300g+ how thick is your glass?

i was gonna build one and i was gonna use 3/4 inch thick..thats me tho

most tanks ive seen at this size have 1/2". i got a quote from somebody for a 96*36*24 and they said they would NOT build this with anything less than 1/2" all around and 3/4" bottom. talk to a few tank manufacturers and see what they say

i tend to try to get higher glass for tanks 200-300+, like 5/8th, 3/4

how long has it been used

from what I understand tank height is the main factor in determining glass thickness.

given that it is only 20" tall, 1/2 should be fine.

keep in mind that Marinelands 'deep dimension' series of tanks has a 300g that is 72x36x27 tall, and it has 1/2" thick front and sides, not sure about the bottom..

yeah, in talking to a few builders, if you go taller, then you need thicker glass

thanks guys. yeah it's only 20" tall so based on other tanks I've seen i think it should be fine.
