I'm just wondering because the Labels all say "FULL CURE-----24hours"

So is it just a paranoid practice or is there risk in the life of the fish involved?

Or is 48hours+ to fully cure just for Repairs and Tank Building?

I'm consuidering this because of 3D background install that i just did. Does it really need at least 48hours?

TIA....

Come on, doesn't anyone really know....

GE I Clear 100% silicone says on the back that you should wait

"At Least 12 hours before water exposure."

Then it says that the Silicone is

"Fully Cured in 24 hours"... So is this Really the safe amount of time needed, especially if it's Only a 3D background and Not holding a tank together?

24 hours is more than plenty won't hurt your fish and will be more than enough time to hold background in place.

for a window or a door, sure, it's sealed at 12-24 hours. But when I add submersion and water pressure to the equation, well i'd rather let it cure longer.

could it not cure slower in a damp, colder environment, than a hot and dry?

it depends on air flow also, yes it says 48 hours but it should also say cure at a certain percent of moisture. near the silcone they have gauges. thats how you truely know. the 12 hours isnt cured it will leach. i suggest a MINIUM of 48 hours seeing that is not getting air flow, wait an extra day. in personal exp ive had to wait much more then the 24 hours it says for GE.

That's what I'm saying though. You'd Rather, but is it neccessary?

Like I said before, This is For a 3D Background, Not a repair or Build of a tank/ Sump....

Well We have our temp set to 67* and we do not have a humidifier.... So it's a bit on the dry side in our house. it's Very noticable when I have a cold.... Sinuses get painfully dry. we have to fire up the portable humidifiers for the kids whent hey're sick...

there was a just a thread about a guy who made a sump for his tank. the silicone wasnt cured all the way and it killed all his fish. heres the link http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382499&highlight=sump+killed. when i resealed my 150g i waited a whole week and then another with it filled up to check for leaks

Man this guy let his Silicone cure fro 3 DAYS.... Tey are all saying that it's not the silicone. How could it be unless it was bad silicone? Bad silicone won't cure for a long time if at all. The Fish all have stringy white feces. it's something other than the silicone my friend.

Like I said though, I'm NOT Repairing a tnak or resealing it.... It's 3D Background job.... Tank is fine and as held water for 5 years....

Yeah, it Doesn't Say 48 hours. THIS is the purpose for the thread, Under correct conditions as I have (Fine Temps and very low if no humidity at all), 24 hours should be fine! Correct? It's for a 3D background not a reapir or reseal or build.

I"M only trying to get the question answered that IF the Silicone has Cured around 24 hours and it's not going to be used for strength, just adhesion (3D BG not a repair), then 24 hours, as the GE I 100% Silicone for W/D says the silicone will be Fully Cured, upon the correct conditions, is an Accurate and safe time to Setup the tank!?

Yes or no?

I can understand that there are conditions that "can" affect the curing time. But IF the Silicone is Fully Cured in 24 hours then it's safe to say that it's safe for use.
