Generally I recommend a 4’ foot tank for a Malawi setup, but if you pick the correct species, I think it could work. I would probably do smaller, less aggressive mbuna.
Is this too much ??

Look into Victorians, I think you would like them and they would work if you did 1m 3-4fGenerally I recommend a 4’ foot tank for a Malawi setup, but if you pick the correct species, I think it could work. I would probably do smaller, less aggressive mbuna
Labs, rustles mbamba, maybe Jalo Afras , stuff like that

First of all that tanks looks amazing. i think i am going to go with a simple community tank and think about getting big cichlids latter on wheni have a tank in my room. which one do you think is a good choice as the centerpiece fish -Here’s my 75 Malawi tank I setup a couple months ago for reference, most of them are only around half size

1. 4-6 angles(Philippine blue angelfish, amazing fish)
2. A pair on blue acara
3. pair of geophages
Another recommendations.
can all 5 live in the same tank ??Thank you!
I’m a little biased, but of those options I would do a pair of Geophagus sveni or steindachneri with a large school of Columbian tetra and some sort of smaller catfish
I actually have 5 sveni coming in after Xmas, they’re an amazing peaceful cichlid
I’m doing 5 in a 75, but I’m honestly not sure about a 50. I’m fairly new to geos I’m confident saying a pair would be fine. Try seeing if there’s any groups of geos in a 40b or 50g on YouTube and see if they look healthy and happy. Maybe someone else will chime in that knows morecan all 5 live in the same tank ??
