50G Aquascape 3.0

There's plenty of it now!

Another quick update as the mid and background plants are finally getting near to the way i want them to look scape wise...

Now just need the buce to play ball and fill in properly... although some are getting holes in their leaves, so not sure if its the peat snails munching on it or a potassium deficiency???

Anyway on with the pics...

Well it's looking super grand! Maybe up your K dose see if it helps?

Got around to cleaning the tank and decided to take some uodate shots...

The buce plants are recovering slowly and a lot have been flowering on and off over the last 2 / 3 weeks...

Now that the plants are maturing some of them have even started developing interesting shades of color, so looking forward to seeing what happens over the next few months...

Just realized these pictures dont really do the plants justice, so will try and get some proper DSL shots maybe next week...

They're looking great and healthy! Well done! :)

Thanks Hendre, i just wish the colors popped more, coz there are some very nice looks blue and purple hues coming through some of the buce under the shaded areas...

This tank is a couple years old now? Have you ever let your background plants grow vertical? And with only shrimp in there, why do you need the surface skimmer? Shrimp food doesn't leave protein on the surface IME. Its a nice scape, I like it.

Yup, tank is now a few years old and been through the paces...

The plants themselves have been through all different looks too... infact around 6 months ago the background plants would almost be at the top of the tanks rim, till i decided to keep trimming them back until they filled in at a lower height as you see now (since i wasnt a fan of the height due to it blocking flow of water)...

As for the skimmer, yes it is necessary for 2 reasons.

1) due to bio-film etc that does build up on the water surface (over a few days) which then traps the Co2 in the tank causing major Co2 build up...

2) it adds more flow to the tank keeping water circulated around the whole tank :)

It could be cool to let the stem plants grow to the top and form a wall

Its doable, but then maintaining the tank becomes a bit more tricky as its harder to reach the substrate when vacuuming without pulling the plants out by accident...

Also the fact the water flow return pipe is almost touching the back wall means the plants will likely start growing slanted towards the skimmer over time losing the effect...

I did during the early stages of planing this new aquascale 3.0 design want to create a lightbox type background to give the tank more depth when looking at it, but couldnt work out a design that would fit my needs...

Then when i saw the cost of the ADA Lightscreen 90 i almost fell off my chair and gave up on the idea lol...
