Haha..that makes 2 of us
Some more progress. All things going well, I should be ordering the glass next week. In the meantime I have been sorting out the lids and the plumbing. I have decided to use large cannisters instead of a wet/dry now. I think they will be better for retaining the heat in the water as this is all outside. Plus they will be more compact to a degree. Between them they will still hold about 50L of media. This working in conjunction with a couple of large internal filters should be plenty. Anyway, pic time
First pics are of the plumbing. Nearly an inch internal diameter. 31 holes throughout the spray rail. Their combined area is just a little less then the 3 return pipes so I can fine tune it later.
Notice the holes in the inlet pipes just below the spray rail. This will break the siphon should a cannister spring a major leak. Without this, it could drain right down to the bottom of the inlet pipe. Something we should all do with all our cannister setups. This way, it can only drain to the hole should something go wrong.
I will just use stainless steel hose clamps to attach the hoses.
Lids are in place. I was happy with the way they look. I used clear polycarbonate panels by Laserlite. Guaranteed against hail damage and UV treated so it should stand up to fish and lights with ease.
Had to come up with a system to stop any fish jumping out. I used 2 different diameter pipes so one just slides through the other. To take a lid out, I just slide the tube out the way to get full access.
Here you can see it with the tubes fully in place. Nothing will be jumping out of here in a hurry.
That's it for now. Cheers
