8 year old BD Male passed away.

Hey guys Im really struggling to get this FRT to eat, ive tried pellets, algae wafers, raw shrimp and romaine lettuce. The lettuce was supposed to be a sure thing and still i dont think hes eaten any of it. Maybe nibbles when im not looking but its been five days now im starting to worry....

This question is out of my lane mate. Never kept an FRT and I have no idea what they eat, or how much or how often. Don’t panic though. A 3” female cichlid can hold eggs and fry in her mouth and not eat at all for 3 weeks. I went to Florida for thanksgiving and dint feed any of my tanks for 5 days. Everyone was totally fine when I returned. If the FRT other behaviors and appearance look the same you have some time to work this out.

Hi my friend so he has started nibbling at the algae wafers which is a good sign!
But I actually have some distressing news I was shipped two rays yesterday and it appears they were lost by UPS.... i mean i dont even know what to say or do. If they do show up late they most likely wont survive this long and tho the sender has said theyd replace them that still really stinks for those poor animals
 
I’m glad the RFT has started to eat some.
That’s terrible news about the rays. I’m glad that the seller is willing to replace them even though it’s a UPS issue.
May I suggest you wait until the weather warms up?
Pretty sure the longest heat pack is 18 hours. Even with pure oxygen, any hiccups w shipping is a certain death sentence because of the cold at this time of year.

I couldnt figure out how to send you pics direct idk why but look at this mess...
The box was soaking wet, UPS must have seen it wet bagged it and put it in a bigger box. It had live animal stickers on it and everything.

Dang mate, that really sucks. That box looks like it was hit by a truck 🤦🏻‍♂️
I wonder if the bags burst from mishandling or if the rays themselves pierced the bags that lead to the box destruction 🤷🏻‍♂️
Did you happen to see the rays barbs cut for shipping?
All in all a crappy situation. Not sure if they would’ve survived that trip even in the summer. We’re the heat packs warm or cold?

No they were de-barbed, the entire package was cold. You could tell one of the bags had barely any water in it. It was sent to the wrong location by UPS first and im sure there left on a counter or on a truck somewhere and no one cares and just tossed it around. Who knows honestly with these people.
 
Were the rays double bagged?
I have a friend up the road that had 3 UPS shipments from the same supplier all arrive with broken bags and water leaking out of the styrofoam & cardboard box.
Another friend never has boxes sent to his home anymore. You can have them held at a transfer center for pick up, that way the box typically stays in a warmer climate and doesn’t get moved from plane to truck to truck. His nearest center is 15 minutes from his house but boxes that leave that center for delivery take up to 4 hours bouncing around in a cold truck to get to his home. Once he figured that out he always picks up at the transfer center.

I would highly recommend waiting now until winter is over. That at least takes freezing weather out of the equation. That’s just me 🤷🏻‍♂️
