8ft custom tank. Glass ... or acrylic ???? help!

wow great feedback! thanks guys.

knowing the acrylic won't yellow or bow out if it is pure acrylic and 1/2 inch thick is good peace of mind, something i couldn't find out searching around the net.

it is only me and my fiance in the house (no kids in sight as of yet, then the fish budget would need to be cut! :grinno:) it goes without saying but i take good care of the tanks i have so scratches on acrylic would not be a big problem especially if they can be polished, it's just taking a step into the unknown! . .

it will only be moving once as far as i am concerned, from the driveway into the living room but because its going to be 8ft long - i will more than probably need to have the living room window removed and refitted to get it in, and the living window height outside the house is shoulder height, nearly head height (for someone that is 6ft 2") so getting a glass aquarium in will be a task and a half! even with 6 people ..

so to sum up, unless i have a glass aquarium built on-site, which i haven't looked into yet:nilly: . .

it looks like i will be taking a step into the world of acrylic
