It's thin glass for such a high tank - imagine it bursting!
It's not so bad, though, because the tank is so short and narrow, so while there is a lot of pressure, there isn't much "diameter".
According to this website, the tank has a safety factor of slightly less than 1.5.

Isn’t 2.8 manufacturing standard on average? Even at 3ft wide a 50” tall panel will have a good amount of pressure

I agree with you, but it may work.

It may be wiser to use it as riparium.

Sure it may work. Just like the tanks you see 3ft tall and 8ft long made with 1/2” acrylic. It works and holds water but it’s only a matter of time. 50” tall is no joke that’s taller than any tank I’ve ever owned and I got a 48” tall 500 gallon. May not break from the water pressure but I wouldn’t like working around the tank to clean it and move rock etc.

Acryilic's tensile strength, at least as far as impact is concerned is ~10x that of glass. 1/2" acrylic would be fine IMO (didn't put in too much thought, though), but this is glass.

Usually an acrylic tank of the same dimensions as a glass tank the acrylic tends to use thicker material from my expirriencr with it. There’s a lot more bowing in an acrylic tank then glass

True. I do not pretend to be an expert, but acrylic does well under temporary stress, but crazes under a constant load. Glass is pretty consistent withits loadbearing. In other words, the acrylic will do better if hit with a falling rock, but the glass will do better supporting a pile of rocks for a year. I may be wrong, but this is how I understand it.
