Hey all,

a LFS just gave me a yabby for free--they were closing and had to give it to a good home; I took it and am considering keeping it rather than giving it away. I have a 55g with cons and was wondering if they will be safe. He's big (about 5 or 6 inches) and I dont know if theyre gonna get eaten when they sleep. They are fast and all but I dont want to lose my beauties to a free crawdad lol

Yabbies are opportunistic omnivores that will eat fish they can catch. Conversely, the yabbie is at risk of being eaten by fish when it's vulnerable during its' molt.

Crayfish and Cichlids should not be housed together as both will potentially prey upon the other.

If you wish to make the attempt, you'll need to know what species you have first (some will just be an outright "no, they can't be housed together"). And be prepared for potentially losses on either side. Some people have successfully housed crays and cichlids, but again, it's not an ideal or recommended thing.
