Maybe like a refugium to reduce nitrates?

Im not sure it will work if thats the case, the fw algae wont absorb nitrates anywhere near like what sw macro algae can. Maybe throw in a load of javamoss?
Any science behind this? I'm curious cause I'm considering one. I've seen mixed results and I'm looking for more than speculation.

Interesting build! It will be cool to see how this works as its so much more compact than the stand up designs.

So its been about three days since I started this algae scrubber, and for two days it had very little algae growth. Even early this morning when I turned it on and checked up on it, there was only small bits of algae and a thin green tint. Well when I got home 18 hrs later this is what I found when I checked before lights out.

OK well its been almost two weeks since I fired it up, and I cleaned it about 4 days in, and now I have a thick carpet of green/brown algae growing. In fact the green hair algae was hanging all the way down into the tank. Last night I did my first water change in 8 days (since I gave the scrubber its first cleaning) and here is the Nitrate reading, its just barely regestering. Wich is awsome b/c usualy the tank will be sitting at somwhere near 20ppm after a week. So there you have it folks, its working! How well is to be seen but its doing pretty good so far.
