Thanks guys, I really do apprecate it.

Arthur, Thats actualy why I kinda got a little fusterated at first. It is built very well for what Im using it for. Believe me I cant even get 20 drops on the floor with out hearingit from the other haft let alone 20g...LOL...=)

Tilapia, Dude you should do it, i dont think I metioned it above but sand the area that you will apply the wood glue ( I used Tilebond Premium II its water resistant). It will allow it to bond together well- sometimes the boards are sprayed.

vildotcom, Thats dude. i just aint figured if I want to do a canopy or a hanging light fixture.

Charney, thats dude. i apprecate the good words

I would just add verticle supports from the floor mounted 1x4's to the tank holding 1x4's so that the MDF doesn't have to hold all that weight before I threw a filled tank on top.

Well its done

dustylane1989@hotmail.com, Yeah it is kinda rude of ya, but I aint mad at you....You still building child play lincon logs, dude.
I did not say that this is the only way to do it nor that it was the best way,You can build what ever you want to how ever you want to do it and if you dont have any real DIY skills themn thats fine Jam 2x4" under everything...I am just saying that 2x4" under a 20g that weights at best 200lbs. LOL
But if you sleep better at night- then Do you.

I am simply saying that this is what I Did because it works for me, not the 1st stand I have done.
Search me.....

SEA OF Titans.

I think you did well. MDF can work when properly done... Its totally amazing, you chose the same color for your last MDF project as I did...

That stand looks really awsome and I think you'll be fine with everything holding up ok. The modern simplicity of it blows away the look of most of the clunky colonial style stands on the market.

Thanks buddy, I agree as well and was the direction I was hoping for. Something that would be a modern look- but not something that will compete with a planted tank. Its easy for big fish to keep your eye with the busy stands and canopies but not with a planted tank. Even small fish are sometimes forgotten by the viewer. Besides, it can be trimed out and everything if you wanted to...LOl

Thanks for the reply guys....But we are not done. I got to put the poppers on the door and I was thinking about it, and instead of the trendy supsended high tech lighting systems...I like to do a canopy. But I need the canopy to set the fuction of a high tech modern set up. So I got to make the canopy something new.

this is a quick diogram so everyone can see what I am thinking!
But this is how I think I like it to open....Cut view.

Also I dont think I would use the MDF on the top, cause again this is not the light weight speaker box wood-THE grade being used is heavy- so if I chnage woods for the top I will have to putty ( like a wood bondo) in order to smooth and give the same look.
But its an ideal, so we see what I do this weekend

Cool idea. Maybe you could use specialty chrome or brushed nickel bolts, for the exposed hardware on that. The last time I browsed the isles of my local hardware store I noticed rolls of aluminum sheeting. Surprisingly not that expensive. I couldn't help but to imagine using it to cover an aquarium hood with it to give it a stainless steel look. Just some ideas to keep things looking space age
