Hi guys, I have more bio rings that I want to add to both of my canister filters, but I am scared to disrupt the cycle. Does adding to existing bio-rings disrupt the cycle?

The amount of bio-media needed, is based on available food, in the form of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, and other waste products produced by metabolism, ....... not on the amount of phyisical bio- media crammed into any type filter
In my sump, I have 3 six inch bags of media, and a 20" x20" square of porrett foam that filter my overcrowded cichlid tank.

You can have a 6 ft sump filled with bio-media, and it won't do any more than those 3 bags of media, once collonized by beneficial bacteria.
Of course, it is possible to have too little, but if your testing results at 0 ammonia. 0 nitrie, and almost undetectable nitrate, you are golden.
Just like the tests below

And the testing I do where I collect fish in nature.

Yeah I didnt have enough bio media. I added fish and im getting ammonia 1ppm with no nitrites and 5ppm of nitrates. So i added more bio media following big water changes while adding stability. I already did the stability for the 8 days that it said to do awhile back, i did back to back big water changes and im still getting readings of ammonia. There wasnt much bio media in there. I run fluval bio max with matrix in one canister filter and the other i have top fin bio rings in that. The fluval 307 with the bio max and matrix was seeded already off of my old tank i had some of the fish in and the other canister i have is newer bio media maybe a few months old. And that didnt have much in it, i may be wrong but i feel like there isnt enough to support the over stocked tank i have. I got oscars, pleco, jack dempsey, two convicts and angelfish and a small bala shark. They’re all in six foot 125. This is just temporary, i plan to get a 180 or maybe 200g
