getting into fishing again and trying to get a decent setup going on looking to spend from 80-150 for the set up. i perfer spinning reel and fish top water alot
shimano sedona 2500 on a 7 foot medium action rod, quality is up to you i like temple fork outfitters rod, that puts you a little over your wanted range but is a heck of a setup
I picked up a Shimano symetre reel with a st Croix mojo bass rod and absolutely love it. If you go with the Sedona instead of the Symetre your looking $150-175 depending on what deals you can find.
^^^ his combo would also be excellent. if you want to shave off a few bucks though the shimano sienna which is only $30 is actually a workhorse of a reel. regardless goodluck!
I agree with these guys. I have all shimano reels and love them. Affordable and good quality. I also am a big fan of st. croix rods but they are not the cheapest... I have the 7ft medium heavy mojo bass rod and love it. Rapala used to make decent rods for fair prices as well but I haven't bought a new set up in a while. The last combo I bought for my wife was a shimano sedona ~50$ and a 6'6" medium action rapala rod for ~50$... great combo that doesn't break the bank.
I only fish top water with a bait caster, get a lot better action IMO its a lot easier once you get used to it. What kind of top water do you like to use?
I'm addicted to hoppin a frog across some pads. But last summer I got hooked on flipping a jig in pads and reeds. You should look into buying a lateral perch it's spendy but worth every penny.
