Hey guys and gals I'm looking to make an African bio type. I already have some ropefish and am looking to get some African leaf fish, and an African brown knifefish. I also need a (or preferably some) catfish for the bottom. They would obviously need to be from Africa and be able to live in a 40B for life. Thanks again
Dwarf Giraffe Nose Catfish maybe. There are lots of catfish that stay small from Africa. That's not even including the Synodontis sp. . There are usually at least 5 different species that stay small on the Aquabid website at all times. Usually there are pictures of them included. Just find one you think is good looking in the picture, then look up the size and compatibility with what you already have in your tank. Good luck.
Just depends on the species. Microstoma is a smaller species I believe. Guttanus gets larger. About 10"+ eventually. Never seen one that big in captivity though.
As far as 'dwarf giraffe catfish' go, if you want small one's, notoglanidium macrostoma (formerly anaspidoglanis macrostoma) only grow to about 8" and are the most commonly imported but don't know how well they do in groups. The other genus of dwarf catfish, parauchenoglanis, such as p. punctatus and p. ngamensis will grow to around 18" probably too large for what you're looking to do…
