air pump.... in sump? in tank? or not at all?

I Have recently setup a 150 gallon with a wier corner overflow and durso standpipe going into the 50gallon sump below.

the tank is currently cycling before the fish are moved from their old tank.

my question is when i do move them should i move the air pump across aswell?

do i need an airpump when running a sump?

will the water be getting enough oxygen from the corner overflow and the open top sump? or should i add the air pump?

also if i am adding it, can i get away with adding it to the sump or is it only really worthwhile adding to the tank?

might be a stupid question, and i know most will say add it anyway. however given the choice i would prefer to leave it out.

well at least out of the tank anyway.

any ideas?

the water trickling over the media in the sump adds way more dissolved oxygen into the water than an airpump can...

I have never run an air pump when I was running a sump, ever and never had any O2 problems...

I had an linear air pump from when I started out . I use it in the tank and in the sump.. 6" disc in the tank and 2 hydro sponge V filters in the sump...

In the tank I just like the way it looks. In the sump it runs my sponge filters. which increases my bio capacity in my grossly over crowded and over fed tank.

Definetly not! Between the wier overflow, the sump (which I assume includes a trickle plate or feature of some sort), and the return head you should have more than enough water movement and oxygenation. On special occasions maybe, like treating ich naturally, but otherwise you should be fine.

that's right...none needed if you are using it to add air into the water...
the water is being exposed to the air, in much greater surface area as it moves through the media...this puts way more oxygen into the water than running bubbles from an airstone...
