So shortly I will be getting 6 two inch Albino Channel cats
Ictalurus Punctatus
I only want one but min order is six, so sell off the rest ). I have a couple questions for those who have some already.

Are they like Pictus as in perfer to be in a group. Or like Ornatus are ok as a single. They are going into a 125gal, 6ft tank and I know they get to 17in that will take some time tho right. So a single should be ok? Or a pair, or the whole pack should be kept?

I had one years ago. They used to be quite common in the shops around here but not anymore.Mine seemed to be fine kept alone and it ate well and grew pretty quickly....perhaps a foot within a year.

Thanks for this, so it will be ok as a single and can sell off the other five.
Most of the info the web has is about the fishing and eating of said fish. But I did see a nice map of it's area of inhabitance and it crosses with Jack Dempsey's so decided to use it for the bottom feeder.

You're welcome and yes I think that one would be just fine if kept alone. They are pretty active too,at least mine was.

All mine grew to about 3o to 36 inches by there second year (on average ), they do fine alone or in groups, I highly recommend very frequent water changes.
This fish makes a good companion for fish like adult koi, or similar sized rtc.
Most of the ones I see in aquaria only grow to about 22 inches.
They will eat other fish that they can cram into their mouths

Thank you for this. That seems a tad big for a 125gal. Plus eating other fish, hummm. It's going to be with JDs 10/8in and sailfin Molly's 7/5in fish.

Maybe I should just go with Hopolo cats instead, I know not CA but smaller, tho I think too small. Was thinking of a Lima Shovelnose but Wet Spot is sold out of them. Pictus you would think is too small as well, maybe another Ornatus.

Are you talking about Flagtail Hoplo catfish?

I was trying to stay an all central tank but don't think I can. Just are not many, that I can find, central fish in the hobby.

So you think at 5in max size they will be big enough for JDs not to eat them?
