Hello,

my Synodontis Petricola catfish group recently started breeding, but surprisingly, almost half of the fry are albino, while the other half are black with dots, just like their parents. Has anybody seen albino synodontis cat before? I was trying to look up online but didn’t find any info. I’m not sure if those albino fry will stay like that or will turn to black with dots later? Any suggestions or comments? Pictures attached below:

The black eyes would not make them Albino.

Those are interesting fish!

Thanks guys! I have never seen any catfish like that before, the % of leucistic ones are very high, close to 50%. And it was consistent across a few brood. Not sure if the fry were all coming from the same breeding pair or different pair. I have a group of 11 adults and I’m not sure which ones are the parents. There are definitely multiple fat females tho.

Yeah well do more updates if you can i for one wanna see how they grow and if there colors stay the same

Mmmmmmm, now that is something I do not recall seeing before. Seen a number of leucistic or albino synodontis but usually man made featherfins, nigrata, etc. Never seen leucistic or albino Petricola and home grown. I am aware it happens in the wild so odds were always for it to happen in captivity too.
it may be a mute point but I can't see the full parent, are you sure you have petricola and not lucipinnis?

I recall seeing piebald and leucistic nigrita and nigriventris for sale if not mistaken.
