Algae Eating Fancy Pleco

Just wondering what would be a good "Algae Eating" Fancy Pleco. I have a Vampire Pleco, but I've come to realize that it's not an effective algae eater. What fancy pleco can get at least about 8" or more that will eat algae? Can I get pics as well?

I was thinking of a Lemon Spot Pleco. Does anyone have any info on these guys?

If you are looking for an algae eliminator, a magnet scraper and a horsehair brush are more effective than any loricariidae will ever be. The truth is, if you provide your fish with a sufficiently satisfying diet, 9 times out of ten they will not TOUCH algae, which tends to be a last source of sustenance, even for herbivorous species--this on top of the fact that only a limited range of algal growth (the brown, diat stuff found only in very mismanaged or very new aquaria) which should be nearly absent in well kept displays.

Neither royals nor green phantoms of either species are heavy algae eaters.

COL there has to be something out there that does a great job at algea!!!!!! i have heard the bushy nose/ Bristle nose plecos are great at it. my common pleco does a very nice job and so does my sailfin Gibbiceps Pleco(L-083).......

what about gold nugget Plecos?? and gold/albino ancitrus????? one of them must be good enough.....????

I hear that Gold Nuggets, Bristlenose, and Otocinculs are great algae eaters. In fact, I have had them and they are fantastic, but I need something that will get at least a minimum of 8"

Who else is tired of these repetitive posts where plecos are only thought to be algae scrapers.

Search the forum there is at least one post per week where this subject is brought up..Plecos need a varied diet, they are not the disposal crew for poor tank maintenance..

Gold nuggets, L200s, are both meat eaters. Their diet consists mostly of meaty foods, and will not eat algae. Royals are decent algae eaters. Many ancistrus species are good algae eaters. Otos are great at eating algae as well, as are redtail black sharks, many shrimps, and snails.

My rubber nose destroys a ton of algae, but the are small.

Gut analysis of wild baryancistrus show a great deal of vegetable content; nearly all baryancistrus are heavy awfuchs feeders.
