So for the past couple days I have been having terrible eye irritation to the point where the doctor was a very necessary decision. To make a long story short I am about 99% certain that the tiny dry food I am feeding my convict:irked: fry:irked: is getting airborne enough to reach my eyes and causing me this frustration and agony. I have not been near the food today and my eyes are doing much better "although the fry have not eaten, that is just to bad at this point they are cons and can fend for themselves.

I have had fry from different fish many times before but have never fed them this food "Hikari First Bites" I use Hikari Cichlid Staple/Gold/Bio-Gold in all my tanks for many years now and have never had a problem with those.

This gives me even more incentive to make their take a planted Keyhole tank instead. Also it looks my my fry all get artemia and daphnia from this point on.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or anything close??

im allergic to blood worms. i cant really touch them, if i do my hands and fingers get REALLY itchy.

nope, you are on your own with that one....

Probably more an irritation reaction than an allergic reaction though.

I also believe I am allergic to blood worms. Frozen cause skin irritation and freeze dried can cause respiratory and eye irritations.

yep im the same way.

yup its official just fed my pbass some BW and now my nose and fingers itch.. eh..

I suffered mild allergic reaction myself when I first handled bloodworms with itchy red hands, neck and chest. Most people suffer anaphylaxis from handling bloodworms alone. Be very careful and check yourself first before you handle anything you've never handled before. Most allergic reactions are quite fatal and can kill you. As far as the theory of what is causing such reaction, it is still debated around. One theory involves the hemoglobin of the insect larva which can cause your skin to react if it never had initiated a reaction to it before. You don't have to eat or lick the bloodworms to get allergy. A slight touch can cause allergic reactions if your skin is really sensitive to allergens.

It's just something to bear in mind. Be careful what you are handling. If unsure, use gloves before handling an object that you suspect may cause allergic reactions.

no food allergies here. . . although i do believe that some foods can emit small particles that become airborne and create a allergic reaction.

You know it could actually be bloodworms for me as well. The reason I think it is not is because I have used frozen for sometime and it has never happened. But when I was younger freeze dried bloodworms did cause skin irritations.

Whether its an allergen or just an irritant its still quite awful.
