Today i bought a spotted alligator gar.
I have 2 questions.
1st) how do i get my gar eat pellets.
2nd) can they live in a 200 litres pond without air pump?

Before answering your questions, post more pics, it looks like a characin to me.

Hi,
If it is actually a gator gar, they have been known to grow 6-10 feet long. So no, it absolutely will not be able to live in a 200l pond for any serious amount of time. And even while small, if the pond has no aeration, at such a small size of 50 gallons, fish won't be able to live in it.

Unfortunately, Alligator gars are one of those fish that should not really be sold to anybody but the most die-hard hobbyist with huge tanks.

I would agree that a true ID from that picture is difficult

It won’t get 6-10ft in captivity, but will certainly out grow your tank in no time. Return to store if they’ll take it back. It will outgrow your tank within a year no doubt.

I think its a characin because it was sold as "spotted", something you see a lot with them.

Ok. He'll stay in the pond until he gets 12 inches. After that i have a pond with 2000 litres capacity so I'll shift him there.
The main question is:
What about the feedings? How do i get him to eat pellets. I feel cruel to give live food.

That’s a 100% gator weird angle but if you owned one you’d know. Their unmistakable. As far as pellets goes they are gars. They are hungry, they are monsters, they will eat anything start with Hikari floating sticks then adv. starve it for a day or three not gonna die
