All great ideas. Now this large blue filter pad. Can this be bought at home depot? Is it called something special. I've never seen these at my lfs and looked for them online but didn't find anything maybe I'm not a very good googler.

I have purhased blue bonded filter media from eBay. 10'X 1'X 3/4" for around $6- $7.

I bought a pillow from Wal-Mart and cut it open and used the stuffing. During tank maintenance I take it out, clean it off in tank water that I siphoned out and put it back in. You can tell when it needs replaced.

Also check in the pond supplies area..I used to buy filter pad in bulk. It was 2' wide and I could buy as long a section as needed for less than $10 a foot.I think I got 6 pads per foot?

Buy a bag of the cheapest WalMart craft stuffing. Been using it for years.
