Altolamprologus Compressiceps infos & lots of help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im not going to keep arguing this point with you. Agreed they arent the SAME fish, but they are very similar. The one in question is basically the eye biter of the Tang's. They ARE very similar with their requirements, and they are both piscivores in the wild.
Even down to the fact that they both behave the same behavior when brought home from the LFS.

RonTheHom, If you can't accept me laying out the facts (argue ??) that these are different fishes, and thinking that when I asked other members' input was dismissing you, because I did not do what you told me to (wow, sounds like my boss), then don't be at MFK since this is open forums.
If you've been keeping and breeding these very similar cihlids for many years like you said, then all you are keeping are just hybrids.

I dont care what you do, if you listen or not, i am just argueing?? that these ARE very similar fish. lol... i keep and breed no hybrids (that didnt even make sense m8) i kept large LAKE MALAWI eye-biters
As soon as i read your post about their behavior i instantly remembered how mine behaved... did that not put you at ease? so their not similar fish? no other cichlids i have kept behave like that when brought home!
:chillpill::ROFL:

My post is about my Alto. Comps are not eating, are you base on this only mentioned behavior then intantly remembered your eye-biters? confused?!?!

eye-biters are the compressiceps of lake malawi. yours are the compressiceps of lake tang.
Are you starting to understand now??

lets leave it at that and we will let someone else tell you the same reason why they wont eat when you brought them home

well like mike says altos need exelent water conditions.. and if they don't have it, the will be sress and maybe thats why they aren't eatting. or maby its just that the haven't adjust to hte new tanmk set up they are in
i have calvus and is a very sentive fish (calvus is REALLY THE SIMILAR)..lol

the only reason the share the name it's cause they have the body compressed..but the definitly have difrente behaviors..
dimidiochromis compressiceps its aggresive and alto compressiceps its a defensive fish
alto compressiceps have thik scales for its defensive purposes and its much slow grower than dimidiochromis .dimidiochromis is a more colorful and active fish but compressiceps has more peaceful and elegant swiming and a more intresting behavior.
both fish are rare and beutiful (alto is more rare:ROFL:)..but don't share anything more than the name

I remembered they were together with a few discus while at my lfs, so I put 2 frontosa (no sure their sex) to their tank yesterday, and they started eating about an hour ago.
Any one have kept alto. comps and frontosa or any thing else as tank mates? Can they do it for life?

compressicps are recomended as frontosas parter casue of the defensive behavior the diet..both carnivours, also the size compss 6in, anything smaller than 6in will become part of fronts diet
i think you would have a problem cause you need a much bigger tank than 29g cause fronts reaches a size of 14in and live in large groups..so the minimun tank size for them is 125g
