Makes you an OG. I just have a lot of spare time lol

At the time I found MFK I was looking for a community of like minded people enjoying this crazy hobby. Where Im at there just are not many others around. If it wasnt for MFK I would not have any type of interaction with anyone that understands what Im talking about most of the time.
I really dont know most of you guys and gals on a personal level but when I refer anyone to MFK I say that you all are my friends.
Does that make any sense at all?
This site just makes the hobby that much better for me.
I hope it never goes anywhere!

I came across MFK when I was searching for help in setting up our 300 gallon tank. About the only thing I gleaned was "you can never have too much filtration" In 2006, about the only thing that I could do was browse the web during my chemotherapy treatment. My favorite pacu forum had been defunct for about six months, and I was in fish forum withdrawals. I didn't join MFK until three months after we set up the tank. Things have really changed on this forum over the years.

The big JDM tanks that this forum was founded for are definitely in the minority. People with their 29 gallon tanks are quick to criticize everything not to their liking or taste. This change is not for the better.

I am a monster fish keeper for life, and indeed, my fish will probably outlive me. While my big tank upgrade is the longest upgrade in the history of fish forums, I am headed in the right direction. The 300 gallon tank system will be replaced with a system with a 503 gallon sump. All the browing I've done (mostly on MFK) has cost me money--two Ultima II 4000s, Reeflo Barracuda Gold pumps, Hammerhead pumps, Tarpon pump, Clarity CL-3, Momotaro Bakki House media--a lot of things have caught my fancy on this forum. I need to get off this computer and back in the tank. I have a lot more painting to do.

Beautiful job so far!

Can only take partial credit. Because of distortion, I had to cut the last panel in 13 pieces and put it back together to lie flat again, so I repainted the last two panels and got them way too blue. I lost the artist's vision. Didn't realize what I had done until we put the backgrounds in. I have joined all the seams and now have a seamless background on the sides and back of the tank. Matching the artist's colors from two years ago under 6 coats of clear epoxy has been a real bear. She is 87, tall, with hip replacements--there is no way she can climb down into the tank. I'm afraid she may not recognize the background by the time I'm done with it. :(

10 year member here, woo hoo! Life's been crazy the last few years and I've been a bad member when it comes to posting. Lurking I'm ok with but posting, not so much. I'll try to be better, I promise. :D

Definitely great that this forum is still around, but I am worried that it is going to drastically slow down. Back from 99-05 I was constantly on these forums, but then took like a 6 year hiatus and rejoined late 2011. I suspect inevitably with the change in technology even MFK will slow down. I am discovering new groups on facebook which are awesome for exchanging pictures but not great for storing info like a forum.
